Eminem's Recovery Salty Dog Review

Posted by djsaltydog on June 23, 2010 at 11:21 AM Comments comments (0)

The response to Eminem’s first album in 5 years (Relapse) was not very good. Mediocre singles like “3. A.M” and “We made You” really lowered most peoples expectations yet the album was still able to sell financially well. If I had to give relapse a score out of 5 I probability would have given it a 3. Just a bit over a year latter he’s back with his comeback album “recovery.”

Well Eminem has admitted the Relapse was just ok and is back to make it up with an album that seems to be inspired from his earlier “Eminem Show” Album. Bellow I’ve rated each track and talked just a bit about them.

Cold Wind Blows 8 / 10 – This is a battle track. Has a lot of name dropping and Eminem sounds very pissed off.

Talkin’ to myself 9 / 10 – This song is about when Em was out of the game and the jealousy he was feeling towards other emcees like Lil Wayne and Kayne. Now I do have a problem when he says he would get his “ass handed to” if he had started a battle with those two. I think we can all agree that Kayne and Lil Wayne are not battle rappers. Maybe he is being a bit too humble.

On Fire 7 / 10 – Another Battle like track.

Wont Back Down 8 / 10 – When I saw Em was doing a song with Pink I was disappointed. However she does a great job on the track and it goes quite hard.

W.T.P 7.5 / 10 – This song is a dancy kind of song like “Cum on everybody” or “Shake That”.

Going Through Changes 8.5 / 10 – When I heard this track I could tell that he sampled Ozzy Osborn for the hook. Wicked song about his struggle during relapse.

Not Afraid 9 /10 – Awesome song but you’ve heard it many times!

Seduction 8 /10 – He talks about attracting your girl through his music. Good song

No Love 9 / 10 – Wicked Haddway sample. Lil Wayne does a good job.

Space Bound 8 / 10 – Talking about how he’s falling for another girl. And how he has seen such pain before but he will try again.

Cinderalla Man 7 / 10 – This songs alright. Battle like.

25 Life 9 / 10 – Rapping about hip hop like it’s a girl. Been done before (Check out “I used to love H.E.R. by Common). Still dope.

So Bad 8 /10 – Good track only one that Dr. Dre worked on and you can tell.

Almost Famous 8 / 10 – Awesome song.

Love the way 8 /10 – Rihanna does a great hook. Talking about dysfunctional relationships, guess Rihanna can relate lol.

Your Never Over 7 /10 – Dedication to Proof. Nice song.

Untitled 8 /10 – Battle like track. Good way to finsh.

Great Album. He really put everything on the line for this one. Go out and buy it, you won’t be disappointed.

No Love (Eminem feat. Lil Wayne)

There was a point when I thought Lil Wayne and Eminem would never do a collab. As the Shady, G-Unit, Dr. Dre, era fades out I expected him to isolate himself against new artists, like DMX did when 50 Cent took over and like 50 cent is doing now. For the most part on Relapse he did that having basically no features (other than Dr. Dre and 50 Cent). He didn't reach out to the current artists or change his beat style to the 808 style that is now so popular. I didn't expect him to change.

I was proved wrong when he was featured on  Drake's track Forever and then again on Lil Wayne's track Drop The World. Well now Lil Wayne is featured on Eminem’s new album Recovery and I’m loving the Haddaway – What Is Love sample.

Listen to the track HERE and tell me what you think. Cred to Matt Weber on finding it.

"Not Afraid" Eminem Recovery Album single review + Link

Eminem's 1st single "Not Afraid" hits radio tomorrow and I'll give my 2 cents on it. Ok so first off this is not following his usual format for first singles. Previous 1st singles off solo Eminem albums like "My Name Is", "Real Slim Shady", “Without Me”, “We Made You”, all had a zany kind of joke like theme to them. Following the “Slim Shady” persona understandably to gain more support from a mainstream audience.

This beat on this track does not sound like an Eminem song particularly because of the fact Eminem has reached out to more producers other then Dr. Dre. I'm glad he's doing that though.

I like the song, will see if it grows on me. You can listen to it here.

Oh and I know it's been awhile since the last post but I'm back after a long year and many exams. I will be posting more frequently now.
